At the World Cheese Championships in Wisconsin, Saputo Dairy Australia’s (SDA) Heidi Farm Tilsit Cheese was crowned best in its class, taking out top honour against 52 other cheeses from around the world. It also secured a nomination for the overall World Champion Cheese award.
The Heidi Farm Tilsit took out the top honour in its class, Wash Rind/Smear Ripened Semi-soft Cheeses – Young (less than four months), and was rated in the Top 20 overall cheeses from a field of 3303 entries.
More than 400 dairy manufacturers from 25 countries submitted entries for the coveted title of World Champion, which was taken out by Hornbacher, made by now four-time World Champion cheesemaker Michael Spycher at Mountain Dairy Fritzenhaus for Gourmino AG in Bern, Switzerland.
SDA GM of marketing, Zoey Saunders, said SDA was thrilled to see its passion for dairy excellence recognised internationally.
“This award is testament to our team’s dedication to crafting exceptional cheeses using Australian milk.
“While this prestigious award honours our cheesemakers’ expertise and the milk supplied by our dedicated farmers, it also affirms Australian dairy’s well-earned place on the global stage,” said Saunders.
Heidi Farm Tilsit is known for having a distinctive nutty overtone, rich and dense in texture. The specialty product is available at SDA’s Cheeseworld store (Allansford, Victoria), is distributed through SDA’s Foodservice partners, and is stocked in select restaurants and premium delicatessens.
